Teaching Philosophy

As a primary school teacher, I strive to create a learning environment which is safe, supportive and caring, recognizes individuality and values differences, fosters natural curiosity and caters for inclusion of all learning styles. I believe that students learn best when they are surrounded by a resource-rich environment and are able to construct their own knowledge through authentic, meaningful and relevant experiences.

It is my belief that inquiry and creativity are important learning processes in children’s development and that the skills and strategies they use to find answers are just as important, if not more so, than the answers themselves.  A core element of my teaching practice is to encourage questioning and curiosity from children and support them with strategies to follow their lines of inquiry.

Expectations

My expectations of my class are simple and straight forward. I expect every student to try their best and do their best work.  I expect each of my students to make great strides in their academic and personal success during the school year and achieve their potential.  I expect my students to take responsibility for their learning and take advantage of all the resources and opportunities available to them in order to succeed.  Additionally, I value good manners and organization skills and will endeavour to foster these in my class.
